Meet Makker

Meet Makker is an app that is still in the early stages of concepting and developing that helps children with diabetes manage their condition in a playful and engaging way.
Most children today use a sensor that measures their blood glucose levels. This sensor is connected to their phone, allowing the hospital to monitor their data as well. In Meet Makker, each child has a virtual little monster that shares the same blood glucose levels as they do.
In this way, the monster grows alongside the child and helps them better understand and manage their daily life with diabetes.

Features of Meet Makker
Meet Makker offers several features to support children living with diabetes. One of these is illustrated here: when the child enters what they are about to eat, the app automatically calculates the amount of carbohydrates and how many units of insulin are needed. The little monster in the app eats the same food and responds with messages like: “Mmm, tasty! But I still need some insulin — do you?”
One of the biggest challenges for people with diabetes is remembering to take insulin right when they start eating. Meet Makker helps prevent this problem by actively reminding children at the right moment.
In addition, the monster warns the child when glucose levels are out of range — for example, when their blood sugar is too low. In that case, the monster tells them it’s time to eat something quickly.
